Yellow Tint in Vista Photo Gallery

Is anyone else having this problem, or is it a deliberate effect put in microsoft?
whenever i open a jpeg in image viewer or photo gallery it has a yellow peachy effect
on it. I can change the settings in the side to get rid of it, but obviously thats
not very practical. It makes it hard to proof anything as the colours are all wrong...It
doesnt seem deliberate as its rubbish! Does anyone else have this problem or a solution?
From what i can tell it only effects those two programs

Which version/edition of Vista?
What are the adjustments you are making to make the picture "right?"
Is this happening just with your pix, or does it happen just with the sample pix
that come with Vista, or both?
The default included Vista applet for pix is Windows Photo Gallery. What is the
second program you are using?

right (tint options etc), sorry yeh i didnt realise it was all photo gallery, when
i mentioned image viewer i was thinking of XP, and it also does it with all images
including the sample ones, anything i open with it has this tint on it. Its just
plain weird.

Here's a link to the Blog page for the team at MS that was responsible for creating
among other things the Windows Photo Gallery.
http://blogs.msdn.com/pix/archive/2007/01.aspx
There's an email link in the top area of the page, send them a message and see if
they have any answers.
I am thinking that if you can correct the tint by sliding the tint slider off of
center in one direction or the other, then there could be a registry value that somehow
got bollixed up and consequently with this goofed up value, Photo Gallery now thinks
that yellow-y is the default middle-of-the-road setting.

ok i will give them a shout, what you said sounds right as moving the bar about 30px
left seems to sort it out, even tho the bar is in the centre to start with, but like
you say it could just be the value bollocks up, i will email them and ask them report
back :)

hi, i managed to fix it so thought i would share the solution in case it happens
to anyone else - i email the link you gave me dan and scott got back to me next day,
informing me that windows photo gallery is colour managed so it uses your monitor
profile. It turns out my monitor profile doesnt want to work properly with vista
:) i went to advanced display options and set it to sRGB IEC61...... and it fixed
it. Basically i need to have to have my monitor as a generic P&P to stop the problem,
and i cant see any problem in that itself. Cheers for you suggestion as it got it
fixed :)

Wow, I would never have thought about that!
Kudos to the MSFT guys for getting back to you as quickly as they did. I guess since
their work is done they have some free time on their hands ;-)
Not sure about how fussy you are (or, if for professonal reasons, have to be) about
correct color, but if so, you might be interested in Googling for monitor color correction
tools. You'll get hits for small devices that help you calibrate your monitor as
well as some software utilities and some tutorials:

Wanted to say thanks for assisting me with this as well. For the past several months
I had the same issue with my Samsung 21" widescreen and as of today (using your tip)
the yellow is gone! I changed everything to DEFAULTS, removed the monitor from the
Device Manager and then refresehed it, Vista found the monitor as default. I then
restarted the computer and no more yellow. I do not see any harm or issues doing
this as you mentioned. Thanks again!
