Finally got mine to work. BTW, I found that opening a command window (on the vista
laptop) and pinging an XP workstation on my network a useful troubleshooting tool.
(Ping wouldn't find the XP until I fixed problem).
This was a new laptop that came with Norton internet preloaded (30 day trial). I
removed norton. Networking began working -- ping successful, XP drives show up on
vista
There is probably some setting in norton that was getting in the way. I'll use msoft
security junk until vista matures a bit.
I did some other things prior to removing norton which may have been req'd:
* made workgroup name identical with XP
* downloaded and installed "Link-Layer Topology Discovery Responder" on XP (downloadable
from microsoft)
