System Information not displaying system information.

Windows System Information is not displaying any hardware or software information. This is also true of the Basic Information About Your computer screen. It lists RAM and Processor as Unknown.

This appears to be a problem with the winmgmt service (which IS running in services, I checked). Additionally, I had the system rebuild the repository in c:\windows\system32\wbem\Repository and it STILL won't display any information.

The error in System Information reads:

Can't Collect Information. Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation Software. Windows Management files may be moved or missing.

At this point I think those files ARE missing. Anyone have any idea what they are? Additionally, the logs in the wbem folder, wmiprov.log display many similar things to the following:

(Tue Feb 13 13:27:44 2007.409703) : *************************************** (Tue Feb 13 13:27:44 2007.409703) : Could not get pointer to binary resource for file: (Tue Feb 13 13:27:44 2007.409703) : C:\Windows\system32\drivers\ndis.sys[MofResourceName](Tue Feb 13 13:27:44 2007.409703) : (Tue Feb 13 13:27:44 2007.409703) : *************************************** (Tue Feb 13 13:27:46 2007.411390) : *************************************** (Tue Feb 13 13:27:46 2007.411390) : Could not get pointer to binary resource for file: (Tue Feb 13 13:27:46 2007.411390) : C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\msiscsi.sys[MofResource](Tue Feb 13 13:27:46 2007.411390) : (Tue Feb 13 13:27:46 2007.411390) : *************************************** (Tue Feb 13 13:27:46 2007.411843) : *************************************** (Tue Feb 13 13:27:46 2007.411843) : Could not get pointer to binary resource for file: (Tue Feb 13 13:27:46 2007.411843) : C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\monitor.sys[MonitorWMI](Tue Feb 13 13:27:46 2007.411843) : (Tue Feb 13 13:27:46 2007.411843) : *************************************** (Tue Feb 13 13:38:00 2007.1025562) : *************************************** (Tue Feb 13 13:38:00 2007.1025562) : Could not get pointer to binary resource for file: (Tue Feb 13 13:38:00 2007.1025562) : C:\Windows\system32\drivers\ndis.sys[MofResourceName](Tue Feb 13 13:38:00 2007.1025562) : (Tue Feb 13 13:38:00 2007.1025562) : *************************************** (Tue Feb 13 13:38:00 2007.1025578) : ***************************************

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd rather not have to reinstall... AGAIN. -kirk

Turns out this is a wider spread issue dealing with the Net List Service... service. Might be related to AIM or Firefox2. Still doing research.

This Site has a rather lengthy investigation on it. No solution yet. :(
