XP/Vista dual boot XP doesn`t start. Ntldr error

Partitioned HDD: volume 1: Vista Home Basic(C:)70Gb ; volume 2: Windows XP(D:)
30Gb
When I am booting up Vista Boot Manager presents with "Vista" and "Earlier Windows"(XP)
options but if I
select XP option I am geting an error message: "File: \ntldr The selected entry
couldn`t be loaded because the application is missing".
So, basically I am getting a ntldr missing message when I choose "Earlier Windows"
option and I can`t load XP only Vista. Selecting Vista works smoothly.
Can sy give me a followable solution for this without using any 2nd 3rd party(VistaBootPro
and EasyBCD) programs?I am not keen of those, but if there is no other option obviosly
I will try.

ME TOO re: XP/Vista dual boot XP dead

On my initial dual boot install of vista that same exact thing happened to me, except
instead of "volume" i was only using "partition". WELL long story short I tried
everything. and finally after rebuilding the boot.ini from vista seemingly fixed
the problem with xp not booting. Until I logged off of xp and whammo the same darn
problem. You basically have to fix it every time!...I ended up getting a second
disk and using the bios boot menu. PROBLEM SOLVED, its ghetto but its better than
rebuilding the bootldr and boot.ini every time you want to use xp!...some people
around here are going to jump and say well i had no problem DUAL BOOTING THE BETA!!!
Well this aint the beta and setup is WORSE. I personally beleive they nerfed it
while trying out this new upgrade must already be installed scheeme. Cant prove
it though.

I am running Windows Vista Enterprize edition, along with a dual boot of Windows
XP Professional.
The solution to your problem lies with win xp... in order to dual boot the two you
need to have xp installed first. I had this problem too because I RAID 0'ed a my
first two hard drives (running vista on these) and planned on booting xp on my third
drive. Anyways the 3rd drive was empty and I already had vista loaded on the Raid
drive. So I thought that if I just loaded xp onto the empty 3rd drive everything
would be ok... this wasnt the case however. Basically I was able to load xp and everything
worked great, however it seemed as if vista completely disappeared, I tried everything
to get it to boot again... the wierd part was that the two os's were on completely
separate drives. Anyways... I guess the Vista boot manager needs to be loaded after
the xp one otherwise only xp will load. So I put in my vista disk, repaired my vista
load, and now vista worked again, but xp was AWOL... so this was my solution...
What I suggest you do is load xp again, get it running, then install vista from within
xp (start up xp put your vista disk in, and reinstall vista) you can still save all
of your data within vista and the install wizard will allow you to create an image
of your old data called windows.old. The downside to this all is that none of your
installed applications will work within vista anymore, however you will be able to
dual boot now. This is the only solution that has worked for me thus far, but because
all of my data was backed up within the windows.old file, all i needed to do was
reinstall my programs, drivers and what not, then import whatever application data
was stored in my applications so that they were back to the same way they were...
its alot of work but if you really need the dual boot between xp and vista I guess
this would be worth it.
