In the Yahoo preferences, I uncheck the box that has messenger open at startup, but either Vista or Messenger is ignoring this and every time I start Windows, the Yahoo IM box comes up. Any similar experiences or better yet, cures? Thanks. Peter

Hi Peter, Ive XP and Im having the same problem, it began with Yahoo upgrading to a newer version than the one i had. I use Hijack-This to delete the yahoo pager quiet.exe. When i reboot and reopen Yahoo to read my mail or for some other reason the yahoo icon reappears in the try near to the clock. SO bad isnt it. Does anyone have a cure like peter asks??

Hi! It's me, Peter under my other screen name. Thanks for answering, at least I know it isn't something stupid that I'm missing. I've been through msconfig; yahoo preferences, etc. all the standard diagnoses and it's all correct in every instance. Maybe it isn't a mistake on their part...maybe they WANT it to behave that way! Yahoo may be more sinister and insidious than we think! Thanks again! Oh BTW, it isn't happening with my XP machine...maybe I'll copy that file and move it to the new one! Of course, Vista gets really cranky about introducing things that aren't tailor made for it.

Hi to all, I have Vista PH, and i use Yahoo messenger all the time, Im not having this problem at all. It only starts when i start it. Although, I am having a problem or a so called glitch that when i want to minimize or actually close the buddy list or whatever you want to call it, it wont do it on occasion. So who knows, the new Vista version is supposedly on its way !!
