Windows has a problem shutting down?

Hi all! I have a Windows Vista Home Premium OS and a brand new computer. But whenever I shut down my computer and restart it the next day or whatever, it says "Windows did not shut normally. Would you like to start Windows now?" But I did shut Windows down normally, so what's up?

On a related note, the blasted thing refuses to stay asleep. It wakes back up within minutes! Thanks for your help!

This may sound asinine, but could you please describe the process you used to shut down the PC? Usually these messages occur after a hard halt or forced shutdown - like a sudden power outage.

Hey everyone, I updated my BIOS from HP and that fixed the problem. It still doesn't sleep for very long, but that looks like a Vista-wide problem.
