Reinstalling/repairing broken WMP11? (wont play many files)

I would like to reinstall/repair WMP11 but cannot figure out how, no matter how much
googling I do. Here is the reason:
Media Player 11 has been working fine, playing all the files I threw at it. Then,
one day (possibly due to installing new nvidia display drivers???), it wont play
many video's or ANY mp3's. It says:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file
type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."
I've tried many codec packs (I remove each one after it fails to help the problem).
Other media players work ok, but I really want WMP11 for video's and sometimes music.
So what can I do? Thanks!

I had a similar problem with wmp11 until I uninstalled all other codecs. Then it
worked fine.
Hope this helps.

Unfortunately no dice. I had not installed any extra codecs when the problem arose;
I have tried and since removed various codec packs (k-lite codec pack, xp codec pack,
to name a couple) but this has not helped the situation.
Surely WMP11 can be reinstalled/repaired/removed???

Try rolling back your video driver to the previous one. Nvidia has had some probs
with vista.
