How much RAM?

I'm running Vista Ultimate with 1.5 gigs of RAM. I have read that you really need 2 gigs. Will an extra 512 make a noticeable difference? I don't do gaming but do work with Photoshop and video software a lot.

That's a tough question. I have 2 GB or RAM on my laptop, and run GIS applications, as well as Photoshop and Illustrator, and rarely use more than around 55% of my available RAM (at least according to the MultiMeter gadget on my sidebar). I can have both Photoshop and my GIS application open simultaneously and don't really see any performance hit unless I'm doing a large operation in GIS, and that's running the Aero interface. My opinion would be that yes, you probably are going to be better off in the long run adding that extra half-gig, but you may not notice a big difference, at least not at first. Keep in mind that some of that RAM could be going to your video card, depending on video RAM you have. So to answer your question...maybe or maybe not, lol. I'm sure some others will have some better info for you.

Buy or use a good usb drive ~ 1 or 2 gb size (having good speed)and use it as a ready
boost in Vista (Much cheaper than adding a ram)...
