Internet Explorer restarting

hi, new Vista laptop, all updates installed in vain that it would solve this issue.
just lately, whenever a new window or tab is opened, usually from a link, when closing
the newly opened window, Internet Explorer always encounters a problem, the box comes
up saying find solution & restart - nothing happens, or close, window closes, a bubble
then comes saying DEP has closed windows to prevent whatever corruption.
any ideas
You tosser you've burned it!

Run a command prompt as administrator. From the start menu, select "All Programs",
then "Accessories" and right-click on the "Command Prompt" shortcut and choose "Run
As Administrator". From here you can use the following command to disable Data Execution
Prevention (DEP) with the following command:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
Keeping your command prompt open, run your setup or other process being stopped by
DEP. Then, to turn it back on again, do the same and run the following:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn

You could try resetting Internet Explorer Settings;
Tools - Internet Options - Advanced Tab - Reset

Yes, log in to your wife's account and do exactly the same.
What other grumbles has your pc got?

thanks again, other grumbles; still have limited connectivity when opening the laptop.
even the advice was followed in a previous post.
Nokia PC Suite starts up every time, it has been disbled in the start up list, but
still perciveres. and now when non essential apps have diabled, i get a little box
every time, telling me that i have disabled some apps....
i like Vista much better than XP, but XP was easier to modify to own preferences.

Your limited connectivity will probably be due to the fact that your pc isn't picking
up the IP address when it starts up.
You need to set up a static IP address, to do this follow these instructions:
How to Set up a Static IP for Windows:
Setting up a static IP is usually a simple process - here are the steps you should
follow:
Click on the Start Button and then choose Run. The Run window should open.
Type cmd in the Run box and click OK. A new black window should open up with a prompt.
At the prompt, type ipconfig/all and click Enter. You should now see lots of information
related to your IP. Some of this information you will need later - either print the
screen or copy down the info for the following fields; IP address, Default Gateway,
Subnet Mask and Name Servers (Name Servers are also called DNS Servers). Once all
the information has been copied or printed, exit this window.
Click Start and then Control Panel, then select Network Connections. Once the Network
Connections window opens, you should see your network connection labeled. Many networks
and computers have more than one network connection. Choose the network connection
that you use to connect to the internet. Once this network connection is selected,
right click and choose properties.
Hint: If you are having difficulties finding the network connection that is used
to connect to the internet, one way to make your search easier is to disable one
connection at a time and then test using your browser if your internet still works.
If your internet no longer works, then the network connection you disabled is the
one that you use to connect to the internet.
In the Properties window, select the General tab and then click on Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP). Once this is selected click on the Properties button.
On this screen, choose the following radio button: Use the Following IP Address and
then you will fill in the following information regarding:
IP Address
Subnet Mask
Default Gateway
There will also be two radio buttons. Choose the radio Button: Use the Following
DNS Server Address. There are two more fields to fill in, they are:
Preferred DNS Server
Alternate DNS Address
Once this information has been added, click OK. A static IP address has been set
for Windows.
Applying a manual IP address will probably solve it, because it won't have to get
it every time you start up the PC.
To solve the problem with Nokia PC Suite try this method:
You can remove PC Suite from the start up in the registry:
- select "Start" .. "Run"
- enter "regedit" - this starts the Registry Editor
- in the left panel of the Registry Editor, navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
Microsoft
Windows
Current Version
Run
- in the right panel, delete all the entries relating to PC Suite

Your problem with the box telling you that apps are disabled could be due to the
User Account Control, try disabling it and see if it makes a difference.
Disable UAC.
It protects you but it can get really annoying sometimes. Here is how you disable
it.
Click the Start Orb
Type CMD in the search and press enter
Copy and paste this code in to the Command Prompt window
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
/v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
Restart your Computer
You will start to get nagging prompts to re-enable UAC, now you need to disable these
prompts.
Click the bubble
At the side, it should say “Change the way Security Center alerts me”, Click that.
Click “Don’t notify me and don’t display the icon”
And there! You have disabled UAC but be warned, you have disabled some of your protection
against spyware and viruses.
