Windows Vista freezes on login

Hi there, I am running Windows Vista Home Premium on a new Compaq PC. This computer is barely a month old and has frequently frozen itself. Many times the computer will completely freeze when it gets to the login screen. (the screen where it lets you enter your password to get into your account) Then i will have to hold down the power button just to turn the computer off, and turn it back on again, hoping that it doesn't freeze again a second time (it's done it twice in a row before) What is going on here? Can anyone help me?? It's a new computer, i cant believe im having these kind of problems. I can't return it, as Best Buy only gives me 14 days to return the computer. If it's any help, before, my screen would completely black out for a second and show a message saying that 'igfx' somehow failed and that Windows recovered it. I found out that somehow the factory installed video drivers were causing the problems, and i promptly downloaded the latest drivers from the Intel site. (however, i could not just normally install them, as they were not "validated" by compaq/hp. I had to first uninstall the old drivers and then go to device manager to install the new drivers from a zip file) Computer specs: Compaq SR5350F Intel Pentium D E2180 2GB ram Intel 82945G chipset Intel integrated video

Jeff, I know you say Best Buys policy is 14 days, what about your consumer rights? A company cannot overwrite the laws cause they want to, they can extend them though. Not sure where in the world you are, but if in UK give trading standards a call. They enjoy getting there teeth into this sort of thing. It sounds as though your PC is full of incorrect drivers, thus stopping it booting

Go here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&cc=ca&dlc=en&product=3644737&lang=en

Download the original drivers (bottom of page) for all the hardware. Uninstall the
existing drivers and install the original drivers from Compaq. If you have to, do
all of this in safe mode.
After re-installing the original drivers, if it continues to freeze, take it back
to Best Buy anyway. Demand a new one or, if they offer to, let them try to fix it
for you (demand free of charge).
As stated by the other person, sink your teeth into them and don't let go until you
are satisfied.

Good luck!
