Set association control panel

Hello all, I was jacking around with a uninstall program and ended up with this statement.
"Create an association in the set associations control panel." I have no idea what
i did,but on the up side, I still have internet access. Appreciate any advice regard
this laptop..thanks

Have you tried a System Restore?

Yes, I tried system restore. same response. In fact, I went to control panel,set
association to reset and nothing...sigh

When does this message come up on your pc?
Is it when you try to open a certain file?
