realtek HD audio

I have an Acer Aspire E380-E with Realtek HD Audio. I was trying to plug my headphones
into the front USB jack and disable the speakers. Now the tab for speakers in the
Realtek HD Audio control panel has disappeared and the computer doesn't recognize
any speakers. I can use my headphones only. I have rebooted, system restored twice
and disabled/enabled the drivers..Help?

Hi sofaspud, if you right click on speaker icon on taskbar then click on playback
devices, are you seeing any sign of speakers in there ?? if not have you tried right
click anywhere on blank space in that playback box to "show disabled devices" & "show
disconnected devices". If you are already seeing speakers in there have you tried
right click on the icon then click "configure speakers" ?

Thanx. I discovered the 'hidden' devices as you said, right-click etc. Only in the
blank spaces not in playback devices.
