unwanted messages at startup, welcome center nonsense

Hi, I just bought a compac presario laptop and it seems to be fine,.. but I'm closing
at least five or six unwanted pages and messages on start up; norton anti-virus;
the "welcome center" (could they have gone any further in annoying the hell out of
us?).... and the pc advisor. I've already disabled the systray message ballons, but
to no avail -they're too persistant. I'd prefer not to activate my Norton anti-virus,
but do I have to remove it altogether just to stop the messages? I'd like to start
my computer and see nothing but my desktop and icons.

Thanks

Hi Steven,

The Welcome Center will have a check box in the lower left corner that you can uncheck
to stop it from running at startup.

You might double check in the program's settings for a option to not have them run
at startup for the other messages at startup.

You can also look at the different Methods in OPTION TWO in this tutorial to see
if these messages are listed with the startup programs list. If you determine that
a listed program is, just disable it and test to see if it appears again at startup.
 If it does, then just enable the listed program again.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
