Windows Vista Home Basic is causing many problems, is it possible to take my new PC that the Vista came on and uninstall it and then install Windows 2000 ?

Hi Dan,

I suppose as long as you have Windows 2000 driver versions for all of your devices
you should have no problem formating your hard drive and installing Windows 2000.

Shawn

There are no dumb questions, just the people that do not ask them.

If you are looking for an easy fix, be advised that none of the Windows OSes are sold with a self-uninstalling function. Some Upgrade versions allow the user to save a prior OS when you perform an in-place upgrade, rather than the preferred "Clean" upgrade. When the old OS is still available, there is a way to revert to it.

However, the Home Editions of XP and Vista (AFAIK, it's both) don't consider Windows 2000 to be a qualifying prior OS they will try to preserve. You have to be using a Professional Edition Upgrade with W2K.

That leaves you with just one way out, and you've already received the advice matching that route. Reformat and install fresh.

Beware...

Before doing anything check the manufacturer of your laptop/desktop to see if they
have the drivers for XP first.

I have a HP G6033EA Laptop and they don't have the drivers for the graphics NVidia
Geforce Go 6100 or the Broadcom wireless adapter, as well as some other needed drivers.

They only have the Vista drivers, not XP drivers.

On a couple Computers that came pre-installed with Vista, I couldn't get XP to work much less Win 2000, Try it, the worst that can happen is it won't work, and you reinstall Vista. You could also try a install on a New Hard Drive. If it doesn't work just put the Vista Drive back in, you then have the New Drive for added storage, or a spare for the day you need it.

Deb, *I* know that. This isn't *MY* thread, you know.

Shawn had already included the comment about W2K's drivers in his early reply, so I didn't bother repeating it.

He (the OP) didn't seem to care about XP.
