Windows Vista Boot Manager Wont Load

I got a new Toshiba Satellite A205-S4777 laptop in August of last year (07), and
it came pre-installed with Vista Home Premium. Along with it I got Toshiba's piece-of-crap
recovery disc (I have no Vista install disc).
I am going to tell the whole story because it may be related. Anyway, I decided to
dual-boot Ubuntu and Vista, which worked perfectly. I got bored of Ubuntu, though,
and, in Vista, I guess I unwisely just deleted the partition (i guess there's a special
way I should have uninstalled it or something). So I restarted my computer and it
gave me a GRUB error because it couldn't find Ubuntu or whatever, and the boot files
were all messed up. I spent two hours and finally came across something that told
me to use the command prompt in the Toshiba recovery disc, and I finally got that
settled. Well... I forgot to plug in my lap top last night, and so it went into hibernation.
No worries, I thought, but lo and behold, I press the power button and this is what
I see:
Windows Boot Manager
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
To fix the problem:
1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and the click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer
for assistance.
File: \Boot\BCD
Status: 0xc000000d
Info: The Windows Boot Configuration data file is missing required information.
(btw, this is the first time "re-booting" since I did the previously mentioned fix.)
So, again, although quite annoyed, I thought, no worries. I popped in the recovery
disc once again and pressed F12... and pressed it again... and again. And the screen
I just typed out popped up again. So, annoyed, I restarted and I realized that there
is none of the usual writing at the bottom of the Toshiba splash screen saying to
press F2 or F12. So I can't boot from a CD. So having the CD and not having the CD
makes no difference.
So now I'm stuck. I can't do anything whatsoever, that I can think of anyway. Any
ideas?
Thanks a ton in advance. BTW, it would nice to have this fixed asap, but at latest
I NEED my computer working again by Tuesday preferrably with all of the files intact
(which I am assuming they still are; it's just a boot problem, not a hard-drive problem).

In that you can't start windows at all the first thing you need to do is to find
an original windows disk. Ask friends, work partners, even you local computer shop
that might know you personally. This would normally be something that I would NEVER
suggest, but you have to have a WINDOWS disk. Then you will need to follow through
with the following links one at a time till you are back in business. Do the BCD
fix first. Also once you are in the M.S. knowledge base look around and get used
to finding stuff to help yourself. There is tons of great stuff just waiting to be
found.

Hey thanks for the help... I however don't have a Vista CD (as I got the Toshiba
Recovery Disc from the manufacturer, which isn't the same). And none of my friends
like Microsoft so they all use Linux and Mac.
I do have an old XP installation CD, but i tried it and it didn't work (i'm guessing
that the Vista CD would make it bypass the normal boot process automatically?...
so why wouldn't the XP CD do the same?)
I've heard to boot cds for Vista. Would that do the same? I want to know before I
try it so that I don't waste my time trying things that don't work.
Thanks again for the help! :)

You are going to have to get an official Vista Install cd of some sort. Start talking
to your friends and neighbors about that. I usually don't recommend passing install
disks around, but is your manufacturer didn't give you one, your don't have a lot
of choices.

Ok, I found someone who has one but it will be a little while before she can get
it to me... I should have it by tonight (where I am). I'll respond again to let you
know the end result after I get the CD.

Ok so I got the CD. It didn't do anything. (by the way, I am using Vista Home Premium,
and the CD was Vista Ultimate. But from your post, I was under the impression that
either would work...

How far did you get? all versions have all of the info on them. Did you get to the
DOS window? What was the response when you typed in the info listed in the M.S. info?
The first one should have taken a long time and given you something for an answer,
even if you didn't understand it.

I'm saying I didn't get past the same error screen I showed before. I get the Toshiba
Splash screen with no option to boot from a disc or go to setup or anything (pressing
the F2 and F8 and F12 and ESC and a string of others doesn't do anything), and then
it goes to the error screen. Having the disc in made no difference.
I went on toshiba's website and found a service center near by so I'm going to take
it in and see what they can do.
Thanks for all the help! I'll let you know what the problem is in the end (if I can
understand what they're saying; I'm in Korea atm).

OK I didn't understand. You have to go into your BIOS setup and change your boot
settings to have BOOT from CD as your first choice and then when you are booting
it should ask (prob. at bottom of screen) to boot for CD or DVD, push any key. To
get to your BIOS, at the very start you press (probably the Delete) your key or key
sequence as stated (hopefully) in your instruction manual for your comp. If it's
not the Delete key and you don't have a booklet of some type look at the manufacturers
web site. I couldn't tell you. Once you have it booting from the DVD then you can
follow the instructions I listed at the first.

However, he said he was not seeing these messages. I had an older Toshiba laptop,
and also could not boot with the CD. I was told to press and hold the recessed reset
button, and that would set the bios back to the default. It did not do anything to
my partitions, therefore, I was able to do a repair on my WinXP install. I am not
sure if it would be the same for you, but it might be worth the risk.

Right i'm not seeing that message.
Anyway, thanks for all your help both of you, but I took my laptop in to the Toshiba
repair shop and they said my mother board needed to be replaced, and since I'm in
Korea and they need to order the part from the US I have to wait a month or longer
for it to get here and for them to install it. Which stinks because I would like
to have had it working by tomorrow. But I guess when you screw up your laptop, there's
not always a quick or easy way to fix it.
Any @ Larry, I don't remember seeing any recessed reset button of any sort and my
computer is at the shop until they get the part so I can't check. But thanks for
the idea and it may come in handy later on! :)
