Recent files won't clear in Vista - why??

My recent files in Vista won't clear.
See here:
http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/1045/windowsvistamn4.jpg]
I delete the "recent" folder, it reverts back to the Vista default but only for a
short time and then goes back to the above message - I have 7-Zip and TortoiseSVN
installed.
I tried what was suggested elsewhere by deleting the recent folder to reset it, and
it did, but not for very long.
It reverted back to the screenshot above, and no matter how many times I do it, will
not allow me to delete the recent files.
Please can someone help me with this??
All advice appreciated
Thanks.

Having the same problem too, and it's repeatedly happening - damn annoying for me!
This happened on my version of Vista Home Edition - anyone know how to fix it??
I've deleted "recent" folder from Users multiple times, but it always reverts back
to what was in the screenshot linked below.
This just doesn't seem to have a fix - well, unless anyone knows how to fix it...
which I haven't had success with so far

Hello An Other and Ronald,
Have you tried turning off (unchecking) the recent files and programs to see if that
will clear it when you turn them back on afterwards.?

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I actually tried your suggestion, Shawn, but it didn't work for very long, it always
reverted back to my screenshot here:
http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/1045/windowsvistamn4.jpg
It works fine at startup, but always reverts to the above after a period of time.

Ok An Other,
See if this can fix the problem then. It might help.

AN Other,
I must admit that I'm stumped since you already deleted them from the "C:\Users\(your
username)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent Items" location to.
Sorry,
Shawn

Try this, right click on the taskbar, click on the start menu tab, click the classic
menu button.
Click customize, hit the clear button.
