If you want to create an exact image of your old hard drive and transfer it to the
new one, a retail purchase (i.e. Office Depot, Best Buy, etc.) of a new hard drive
will come with software to copy from old to new.
You will also get instructions in the box on how to physically connect both drives
properly.
Good luck!

Hi Dave,
If you have the Vista Enterprise, Ultimate, or Business edition, then you can use
the Complete PC Backup feature to save everything on your hard drive to either another
hard drive, partition, or DVD's. This will show you how.

If you do not have one of these editions, then you will need to use a 3rd party backup
program like Acronis True Image, or manually backup the files you do not want to
lose. You can download a 15-day fully functional trial version of Acronis below.
It should be enough time to do what you are wanting.

Hope this helps you,
Shawn

If you buy new drive, drive manufacturer's site will have software to clone old drive
to new. When you do this (whichever method you use), disconnect the old drive before
booting the new for the first time.

Noise??? How old is that thing, or did you drop it?
Disconnect the drive and boot from a CD/floppy before investing.
