Vista Premium 64 bit won't load DVD Driver

I have a IDE Lite-On DVD Writer in the new PC. It's been working for a couple of
months now with no problems. I went to install a Samsung SATA DVD Writer too. Vista
tried to install the device, then a message came up stating that the device driver
was blocked and that I should go to the Samsung site for their driver. Samsung has
no driver for Vista, much less Vista 64 bit. Now Vista is saying the same thing about
the Lite-On driver. I went to their web site and you guessed it. No driver needed.
I've uninstalled and taken out the Samsung and uninstalled the lite-on with no success.
I went back to a restore point before the installation and it didn't do any good.
All I get is the little yellos exclamation point in the device manager beside the
Lite-On Drive. The bios is seeing the drive with no problems. (Intel DP35DP Board,
Intel E 4500 Processor, 4 gigs RAM, Windows Vista 64 bit) Any assistance would be
greatly appreciated.

One answer is that for some reason vista initially has no problem installing generic
drivers, but after you do anything to upset that, as your new device did, VISTA has
a problem reverting to generic. Try to go into your device manager and find you Yellow
Exclamation go in and click on Properties/Details and try to tell it what your device
is. In your case the Device description would be simply "CD-ROM Drive". This has
worked for me. The rest of the info it picks up from the Plug N' Play.
