Error code 80073712

Well anytime I try to do an update from Microsoft I get the error code and the update
fails. I have done some research and find that some suggest deleting a file called
'pending.xml.' Well I do not have that file in the place it is supposed to be. If
one searches this site or the Microsoft error code site there is no such code! So
how does Microsoft cause an error code and not have an explanation for it on their
site? Anyway, has anyone else had this? How did you fix it if you did? I know when
it comes time to do the SP1 update it will crash and burn as well. Thanks for listening.
Cal.

Your code is a return of a failed update. In that you didn't use the word PROXY when
talking about it I will jump over that problem and direct you to a thread I had with
"Barnum" here on Annoyances on Feb. 14, 08. I lined out how to wipe the update history
and registry. It's a little involved and you HAVE TO follow the directions to the
letter. Study it before you jump in. It has and does work with many of the update
failures.

Thank you for your response but I think there is more to this error than meets the
eye. I have posted a request to Microsoft Support and they have requested a couple
of logs be sent to them. They have also requested I remove a file 'pending.xml' which
my machine does not have. In searching the Internet I find that there are many hits
on this error and as many suggestions on how to get rid of it. I think I will mark
time for a while. I do however sense a rebuild of my system starting with a "Format
C:\." The joys of being a Windows USER!!

I also am getting this error message and I did try again and now it just tells me
there are 2 updates to install. I went back to the message of Barnum and was unable
to correct my problem is there any other advice? I would greatly appreciate it.
