They just don't put it up there as a default item in Vista. R. click on the bar and
scroll down to "more". You will be offered more choices than you want to deal with.
You may also drag these headers to any order you want.

At this point I hope we are talking about the same thing. Don't be ashamed for not
having all this just instantly poured in you ear. Have met anyone that got it that
way yet. You are in "My Computer" or in the old days we just called it Explorer.
Lets say we are looking at your C: drive. On the left you have a smaller Column that
shows the drive letter and the folder under it. On the right you have the bulk of
your screen and toward the top you have three headers and the third one should have
little to no shading or colour. It has multiple columns titled with items like "Name",
"Date" and "Size". I am assuming this is where you want to have the "Type" you spoke
of and it is here that you R. Click to get you options that are vast! If you are
talking about where you choose what type of file you want to save a file as like
in your word processor, that is a function of that program and has not changed just
by having Vista on your machine.

I believe we are talking about two different things. In Windows XP you could clink
on folder options in Control panel or explorer under tools and see a tab named file
types. There you could change the way programs opened or assign tasks to a file type
or component like a file folder, I used to be able to create a batch file that would
print a directory listing from a right click menu. That tab is no longer listed here
and I want to know if anyone has found a way around this. I hope I'm making myself
clear. Thanks for your responses.

I think we are on the same page now! Try looking in Control Panel/Default Programs/Set
Associations. They had added so much to this they felt it necessary to make a category
all by itself for it. I like the idea of printing the file assoc. out.

Your really got me out of a jam, as I was looking for 'file types' for ages.
I really appreciate your help, thanks so much!
