Network Drive alert on startup

I have a second computer networked with my main computer, which I use for backup and other purposes. Since I want easy access to the backup machine, I have mapped it as a network drive so that I can easily get to it from my computer. However, the backup computer is not on all the time.

The problem is, if the backup computer is not on when I start my main machine, I get an annoying balloon in the system tray telling me that my network drives cannot be mapped. Now obviously, I am aware that my network drive is not always connected, I just don't want that balloon popping up every time i start my computer.

One way I can work around this is by just using a shortcut to the backup, or by "Add Network Location" in My Computer. The difference is, if I map it as a network drive, it appears as a drive and the icon tells my how much free space is on the backup. This I like. If I use either of the other two methods, it just appears as a plain old folder.

So, how can I keep my backup computer mapped as a network drive without having that annoying alert popping up every time I start my main machine?

I don't think you can stop it, my laptop does exactly the same thing if my main desktop
XP machine is turned off, all I do is click the X to close the message and it doesn't
bother me again.
It obviously doesn't annoy me as much as it does you though, maybe someone out there
knows how to turn it off and hopefully they'll post the fix for you.
Good luck.
