I have a question about What are the $INPLACE.~TR and $WINDOWS.~Q folders for in Windows Vista?:

I wouldn't be so quick to remove the $INPLACE.~TR folder. In my case, I had originally moved my Public files to a new drive. I had over 300GB of photos and music in these folders. When I completed the new Vista install, all of these files were gone!!! The folders where all there, but they were empty. After doing some digging around the drive, I found these files were in this folder. So if I had deleted it, I would have lost it all...

Folders and listing using '$' denote what are called "Hidden Shares". I have included some links below to help you understand these, how they are used and worked with. I hope this helps you. http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/h/hiddshar.htm http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314984 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318755
