I'm going to refer you to an older Annoyances response to show you how to use this switch. http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/1183153141

You should also be aware that this is just a getbye fix. There are many references on the net about this having been originally caused by viral action, (hint update you virus files/ go to safe mode and run a virus scan). It can also be caused by people who like to patch into your machine without permission, Hackers. Essentially it is just an improper or failed D/L.

Thank you for the reply. I read and tried the solution above but the system kept saying /ncrc is not a recognized internal or external command. I must point out very quickly that i am new to the ideas of command. I'm trying to install mirc, i just need it to work. Many Thanks

The message is telling you that the file you downloaded is incomplete or corrupt. There is NO point in trying to run it using the /ncrc switch - this will simply disable Vista from checking for an incomplete or corrupt file so you will be running defective file, and its pretty unlikely that will do anything useful for you. The most likely cause is that the source file is indeed defective, as the message says. Can you download it from another location ? Before doing that it would be wise to clear down your IE cache and run a full virus scan. Next most likely cause is the use of a download accelerator - if you are using one, disable it. Some unlikely causes include another failed installation (a failed McAfee SiteAdvisor installation, for instance), IE7 add-ons (try disabling all of them - you can always re-enable them). Finally, special characters in the filename can cause problems in Vista - when you download, try naming the file to something simple like mirc.exe (do not change the .exe part !). This should not affect the installation process.
