Diall Connection Keeps Appearing

Vista Home Premium, SP1. I created a dial-up connection for my ISP, to be used if
the dsl line is not working. The dial-up works, perhaps too well: While I'm on-line
using dsl, from time to time the dial-up box pops up.

I can discern no pattern to this, nor have I been able, so far, to find any documents
that might explain how to stop the untoward behavior.

Assistance would, rather obviously (or ought I say "obliviously"?), be appreciated.

Have you verified in your IE that under tools, connection "dial when a network cconnection is not present" is checked off? I know that when not using dialup the prefered selection is "never dial a connection" I know the second option should make you ok.

Thanks for responding.

I rarely use IE; however, to see if this helps, I just changed to "never dial" from
"dial when a network connection is not present".

Hmm, I just remembered that there is also a setting in Control Panel/Internet connections.
Perhaps that needs to be changed, so I shall also have to experiment with that. (Five
years with Windows XP, now perhaps six weeks with Vista, and only a day or two with
a dial-up connection set up in Vista.)

Apparently selecting "never dial" in the Control Panel/Internet connections dialog
fixes the problem. It is likely that I made that change in Windows XP a few years
ago when I moved to dsl, as I never had the problem in XP, and had forgotten about
having made that change in XP when I moved to Vista.
