Update failures and Error codes

So often we only hear and complain about problems. This note is about an issue I
had with Updates and error codes. I sent a request for assistance to Microsoft. I
received an e-mail answer from a support person. She had me do a few things and send
some logs to her. She handed me off to a second level person. He had me perform further
actions and requested logs. Responded with further actions and request for logs.
A final suggestion was to make some registry changes and download another piece of
software and run it. BINGO, an In-Place upgrade and everything has returned to like
new. A download and install of 53 updates went without a hitch, and all the little
'funny' things going on with my PC have disappeared. I tell you all this only to
say that so often we P&M about Microsoft and never hear the success stories. All
this without cost to me and all done via e-mail exchanges. Thanks for listening.

Ms has a stated policy in place (and this is Charlie's paraphrase), Any update error
that is encountered is dealt with by them "FOR FREE". I had a similar issue and I
am running an OEM version (NO SUPPORT), this was before SP1, when they were passing
out the prerequisite updates. I was on the phone for 3 hours and he would not let
me go till he knew my machine was running correctly. Vista is a departure from anything
that MIGHT HAVE been going bad inside MS. I have said it many times, even the Apple
owners I know are running Vista as their preferred OS. The only ones not on board
are those who still haven't even started betas for drivers or AVs that still think
they know better on how MS "should have done it". Also I hate the outsourced help
desks, but when I called for my help they guy from INDIA did a pretty good job of
speaking and worked well with me! We even talked about fishing over there. MS is
not the big mean monster some people want us to believe it is. Let the MS TV add
guy tell that to the Apple shrink!

Vista is CRAP. It is another lamer like Win98, Win Me. MS will probably come out
with Vista SE as they did with 98. Why does MS act like a bunch of hungry thieves?
Vista keeps asking repeatedly me if I really want to do something as if I am some
dummy. The other day it downloaded and installed 17 upgrades. It kept rebooting for
an hour until I decided to scrap it for Win XP Pro.
