Can't open Vista Defrag

Hello all:) I can't seem to get the disk defragmenter working in Vista 32bit. The program that seems to be giving me a problem is dfrgui.exe (656kb) when I click it I get the hour glass for a second then nothing. I running a lean service startup to gain performance, is there a service that might be disabled that is required for Vista defrag? Anyone have any ideas on things i could check? I tried a chkdsk, ran fine. Thanks MajSlayer420

Your post raises a bunch of questions ! I suppose the first has to be "why bother ?" - unless you have been doing an extraordinary amount of file work / installations etc NTFS' performance will not be degraded by file fragmentation. The second is why are you running a .exe file to start the Vista defragmenter ? It was not deisgned to run from there. Lastly, if you do succeed in launching the defragmenter, it runs silently so you might not be aware that it is doing its job. Launch it in the proper way - but only if you really need to - and you should have no problems.

Got it fixed, I disabled Task Scheduler in my registry this was preventing defrag from opening, dfrgui.exe is the correct way to run the GUI version of vista defragmenter, but thanks anyhow. You must not own Vista? lates MajSlayer420
