USB not working after SP1

Hi all,
Just installed SP1 more or less successfully but lost my sound so clicked on the
sound card in device manager & did an 'update' but I also have a Freecom 500gB external
USB disk.
I powered it on and got a blue screen but rebooted & every time I attach/disconnect
it comes up with nastygram saying unrecognized USB device (and displays in device
manager as such) so any ideas how I can resolve this.
I vaguely recall having similar yonks ago & pointed it to System 32 or something
for a driver but not sure now so any 'magic' would be good.
Further testing of this service pack to happen but I hoped it would work fine & it
is suppsoed to help slow file transfer etc which is primarily why I installed it.
BTW, Vista home premium.
Thanks in advance.

I recently bought a new USB keyboard only to find I just could not install it, no
matter how I tried. I decided to try uninstalling SP1, after which the keyboard
worked first time. So it is one update I will not be reinstalling. BTW -also Vista
Home Premium

Interesting-I just bought this Vista machine-the techs at the shop installed SP1-didn't
even ask me if I wanted it. But I have had to update practically every driver on
this thing it seems like. If that were the case you think they would have done that,
but then I was also choked because I paid them to take off the bloatware-and found
registry keys with Norton (trial they were paid to take off), also traces of AOL.
I am taking it in tomorrow so they can finish the job. I could have done it myself-but
I was real busy-and figured my time would be better spent preparing for my show.
So not sure if SP1 is the reason-but even my graphics card driver had to be updated-most
all of my USB. I had a terrible time installing my printer-scanner(one machine)-known
issues for that-but I obtained the new drivers on the manufacturers website.
Not sure if this is the reason-but I have been going through Device Manager-one
by one checking the drivers. Not sure if I am done yet. LOL.
I have heard that drivers is a huge issue on Vista. I am no expert-and I have only
had this computer for three weeks-still tweaking.

Well before you do anything else, try just uninstalling SP1 first and see if that
makes any difference. You can always reinstall it again later if you want.

Well, if I had that kind of time I would consider that-SP 1 is about to be official-so
I am not going to do that at this time. I thought perhaps my experience might be
helpful for you.
