Discovered today I have not had a check for updates since 23 March. When I try to check for an update manually I get a message windows can't update code 80080005. I have not found anything that helped on google. I have vista premium home and am set to download an install updates automatically. Could it be the update program itself that needs updating? How do I check this? Thanks if you can help

Do you have different user accounts that possibly you have done you updates for more than one of these accounts? Anyway, this is a pretty common and old error. Try the following links and see if they don't help you let me know. If you are not familiar with making patches in the registry you may need a little coaching. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/870655 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909444 And this is a more technical description of what s going on. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms687759.aspx
