TV in Vista

Hi guys,
Just a long shot (but hey if you don't ask you don't get:-)
I have a new pc running Vista Home premium (SPI plus all patches) & it came with
an inbuilt Philips TV tuner/card thing.. (at least the remote is ha) & running Windows
Media Centre to display the TV, so here's the thing every so often you fire up the
TV and it says there is no signal blah & you have to go through power down/up then
setup/scan to get them all back (EPG guide sees channels but when you click on them
nothing)
We have a perfect signal here & a power cycle/rescan always fixes but it's tedious
to do this but doesn't always happen so I can't figure out a usage pattern. I don't
know how to check for updates (Windows Media Centre) apart from the usual windows
update site which presumably checks your software anyhow.
I'm convinced it's not hardware (though it could be a weird fault with the card I
guess) but some patch/driver blah but can't see one.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this or some helpful words.
Thanks in advance.
Gary

BTW,
The TV Capture device is SAA713X with driver 1.3.3.2 according to Device Manager
which I've googled but unclear with the responses as Philips' own site won't recognize
but a lot of hits for Chris TV :-)

Looking on Microsofts Update Catalog I see 1.3.3.2 is 'their' latest. I can't figure
out how to update or even check the media center program that you have to fire up.
Maybe a free other bit of software to view TV might be appropriate if anyone can
suggest:-)

If you are using digital input with an external antenna it is almost certainly the
ground (shield). Try different antenna(s) first.
NOTE: I have even seen this problem in satellite boxes when the RF out was not shielded
well (normal tv setup).

Hi,
Thanks for that. It's a standard aerial input (so nothing digital as the card does
the freeview stuff) all fully earthed in standard cable which works fine if plugged
into a TV direct.
So unless it's static build up hmm I fail to understand as when this happens all
I do is shutdown then switch on again and fire up the software (reboot doesn't work)
so it is perplexing but looks like software or some setting as opposed to hardware
unless you have other views which are welcome:-))

A shutdown versus reboot still suggests, to me at least, a shielding problem.
Try shutting down media center and disconnecting the antenna (at the card) for about
30 seconds when it fails again. Then just re-start media center.
You could also try re-seating the card in it's slot, but you must be VERY CAREFUL
as parts placement, including any wire routing, is very important on tuners. Even
a bad bump during shipping could have knocked something out of tolerance (on the
card itself), causing this intermittent failure.
You might also have a problem with external RF interference: cordless phones, 2 way
radios, wireless (speakers, i-net, printing), etc. If you are not using the telephone
modem, disable it.

When this happens, go to Start/Settings/control panel/system/Device Manager (in the
upper left). Is there any yellow "!" showing next to any of the devices listed? Especially
you T.V. adapter. And do it after your reboot. Also how long has the system been
running Hours/Days when this happens? Is it a USB plug in device? Is this a desktop
computer? Have you looked for new drivers for the T.V. Adapter and check their site
to make sure they are compatible with SP1?
