i just installed Office XP on my wife's Vista 32 bit computer. Windows Update is prompting me to download XP SP3. Has anyone heard any downsides to installing it? For that matter, has anyone heard any downsides to downloading Office 2007 SP1 - the tech guy at work told me not to, that it caused more problems than it cured. any thoughts? anyone, anyone? Bueller?

I've done a few SP1 upgrades to Office 2007 and about a quarter of them had problems ranging from petty to extremely tiresome. Nothing major. Performance is slightly better, and the math problem in Excel is fixed, but with hindsight I wouldn't have bothered. I think a good rule is that if you are suffering from a problem that you know SP1 fixes, give it a try (that is as long as you have the Office CDs: you cannot uninstall SP1 for Microsoft Office [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873125] - or any other recent Office SP), and if it ain't broke don't fix it.
