Going back to XP

I have a brand new laptop which came with MS Vista preloaded. The laptop came without
a Vista Disc. I have a great deal of software that seems to be imcompatiable with
Vista. Replacing all this software would cost more than the laptop, so, I want to
go back to XP. Is this as simple as popping in a XP disc and loading it. I just got
the computer so there really isnt data to back up, just all the pre loaded trail
offer crap that came with the computer. Is there any good reason not to proceed with
the downgrade? Thanks,
Frank

Laptops have a lot of Proprietary Drivers that are not included in Windows. So go
to the Manufactures Web site to see if they offer XP Drivers for your model. If they
don't, then you will probably have a somewhat crippled laptop running XP. I have
tried this for some friends, and a few things I have found when reverting to XP is
loss of Sound, Video Display not having right resolutions, mouse pads a bit buggy,
Power Options like standby, Hibernation, and Battery indicators not working etc.
If you try, just make sure you have a way to go back to Vista if the problems are
hard to live with,

Just agreeing with Steve - though so far there have been drivers on manufacturer's
site for all laptops I've reverted bar one (for private customers and schools I support).
The one that didn't have, I found drivers elsewhere (took a bit of intense Googling1),
and the manufacturer (HP) have now posted XP drivers.
