Can't make folder private

My family's PC is now running Vista Home Premium. I want to make my Documents folder private.

In XP, this was easy: You opened the folder's Properties, and selected "Make this folder private" (or something like that).

In Vista, I can't find an option to do this. What's more, I although have the only Administrator account on our system, and my Documents folder permissions list only "System", "Administrators", and my account, the folder is viewable when any of my other family members log in. What gives?

That is one of the few things that irritate me about Vista. You only have some (most)
of the Admin rights. The actual Administrator accounts is hidden and can be brought
to the surface, but lets See if we can get you what you need without that.

Go to your Icon's properties then to 'Security/Advanced and select the user you want
to restrict, then edit. If you can't get these to stick, then go to the 'Owner' tab
and you can alter the list of those who can eve open the icon/program. See if that
puts you in control.

Things start to get shaky by changing other things like UAC and Opening the real
Admin. Account, so try to avoid those or you could be back here asking why something
else quit working!

What about an account for each member of your family?

Thanks, guys. I ended up figuring it out: In the folder's permissions, I simply entered each of my family members' account names, and selected "Deny" under "Full Control", blocking all rights to that folder for them. (Before, I was trying to figure out a single group name that would include all of them, but not me---but there was no "Standard Users" counterpart to "Administrators".)

And for some reason---just to add one of those interesting Vista mysteries---now none of them can even open the "Users" folder, much less any of my personal folders. That Bill G. likes to keep us guessing, doesn't he?

Cheers, A.
