I Lose Settings After Vista Updates!!!!!!!!!!!!

On several occasions after Vista updates via the automatic updates feature, I've lost all of my settings after the reboot, such as: My desktop background reverts to the basic Vista; many of the shortcuts on my desktop disappear; I have to reinstall Outlook & setup my email accounts; the sound settings for Vista change, i.e. the sound when I click an icon; I lose my home page tabs & search default in IE7, and I have to run the "Run Once" when I first open IE7; the My Documents folder reverts from where I have it set (second hard drive), to the original location (c:\users\etc . . .). Is there any way to avoid this, or to ensure that it doesn't happen? VERY ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vista is VERY sensitive to competing programs running in the background when running
updates. Especially when doing the more major ones like SP1.
Make sure you shut down any programs that you don't need and that means the AV especially.
The only thing I can think of at the moment that should show in the tray would be
your web connection.

original location (c:\users\etc)."

Your problems will continue if you keep moving the My Documents folder to the second
hard drive.
