It is absolutely amazing how terrible of an operating system Vista really is. I
have a six month old HP Pavilion DV9420CA Notebook dual Turion CPU that is slower
than my first 286.
I cannot click on one single thing that does not give me an (not responding) message.
Then I have to wait up to 8 minutes for the computer to catch up with the commands.
Even writing this message I have to write a sentence and wait up to 50 seconds for
the words to show on the screen. Only the worst programmers in the universe could
have written this freaking piece of crap.
I run up to date AVG and adaware, and highjack this and everything shows ok, yet
this pile of beetle dung is still extremely slow.
Plus it will not allow me to access most folders it feels I have no right to.
If I format the hard drive with a boot CD , can I load XP and get this thing to work?
Or will I not be able to get the drivers i need.
Only other answer is to switch to a Mac like thousands of smart people are doing.
I cannot believe Microsoft would produce this kind of work, not hard to tell Bill
has left the building.
I simply cannot believe a sane person would willingly chose this operating system
without a gun to their head.

Even though most of the drivers for that laptop isn't on the download page for XP,
you should be able to find them.
Your problem might not be Vista though. Could be a hardware problem, not sure what
it could be though besides the keyboard. How much system memory does it have?

Actually Vista is one of the best MS offerings yet. It is very stable with the few
exceptions of people hacking their system to make it do things they have no clue
what they are doing and 3rd parts JUNK that we put on it to make it blow chunks.
As far as Applesauce goes just about everyone I know using one has Vista as their
primary OS as OS X kitty just doesn't cut it. Try from a fresh start and leave everything
that is not MS off of it for a while till you get things stable. Also after a fresh
install it has been suggested that you let the thing run in the background for a
couple of days till it sorts out all of the file system and such.

I believe hp is offering xp recovery discs (without a key, though) after outcry about
piss-ta. Those would have drivers, so I would look on their site more closely for
them. Also, hardware does not change that quickly, so I am sure you will find something
that will run your equipment.
The biggest concerns are your SATA drivers (which should be in BIOS for that new
a pc) and making sure you can get dual-processor support. I would partition the drive
and run a test install on d: (taking notes) so that when you set it up as permanent
you can get it right.

Charlie, I do appreciate your help and even your acceptance of Vista, but you must
know you are in a very small minority. Vista sucks and that is that. Just the fact
you suggest reloading the OS, letting it run a few days to get used to things is
not how a computer is supposed to work. Other than Office and Corel i have nothing
else on my computer.
And denying me access to many many folders is not to stop people from playing, it
is to control me and track what I do. Simple privacy issues.
I do not use one single program that I have used for years on 98SE, ME and XP.
To suggest that anything other than loading the OS and using the computer simply
shows how crappy and unstable it is.
But please continue to reply to my posts and questions. I really do appreciate you
care and help.
