usb problems, no mouse or keyboard

Strange problem, I hooked up a new monitor yesterday, and for some reason Vista started looking for new mouse and keyboard drivers and automatically installed them causing my mouse and keyboard to no work. Now, I can plug the mouse and keyboard into a different USB slot, and it works, but only until Vista installs new drivers for them, then they won't work in thouse slots anymore. Is there any way to cancel that automatic installation? I'm running out of USB ports. I read something about an update in April that caused USB problems for many people, but this happened last night, 6/8/08. Right now my computer is dead, I've got a couple of ports left to try, and i'm using a laptop to find ideas before i burn thouse ports too. help please!!!

Does your monitor have any advanced features like speakers and a place for optional
plug-ins for things like mice and keyboard? Can you remove the new monitor and go
back to the original working state? Have you tried checking for different or updated
monitor drivers? See what your system lists for it's monitor driver. If it is generic
, standard, system or something like that, I doubt that changed anything. Have you
tried to 'Roll back the keyboard and mouse driver to it's previous ver.?
