Do an Internet search for "Lost Vista Password" (without the quotation marks.)

IF, you do not have an account in some name (you account) and you can't get on at
all your answers are few with Vista. You will be able to search out some programs
that you can purchase to fix this. They are usually less than $75. Doesn't put a
smile on my Face. I have enclosed a link that will talk you through a method, tricky
and possibly fatal to your system. I like playing around in the registry and I don't
like this method. Any thing that lets you play around in the registry via DOS is
questionable. I get yelled at for advising people how to do it INSIDE windows. Or
you can re-install everything and hope you don't loose anything important. And I
am sure a shop will be happy to collect a nice fee to do it for you. You have to
decide the value of your data and your ability with a computer. If your a good reader
the link might lead you to some other helps!

I have come across the very same problem, my son-in-law put a password on his Vista
system, and now can't remember it. They have been trying all the usual suspects.
Luckily for him, he is not having to try the 'hacking' of the registry through DOS,
I have a spare computer with Vista on it for me to try solutions, however, so far,
none have worked for Vista (like they have worked in the past on XP).

I am still looking, and will keep a watch on this string for answers and suggestions,
thanks in advanced.

I hesitate to advise as I cannot know if you have a legitimate query or if - say - its an "acquired" laptop ! But I was interested in how Vista works and found a free way to show you what the password is (but not to reset it). I think my conscience is clear if I simply say take John Liebson's advice and do the search yourself - the answers are out there, Google is your friend !

I Totally Agree! If you have lost data that is important then consider how valuable
in dollars of "Authorized" help it is worth. If not, wipe it and reinstall or Google
and start doing some hands one learning. I have already pointed out much more than
I should have on this delicate subject. I'm going to just say it out loud. Assuming
your request is legitimate, there are just too many legalities for anyone to get
involved with on this one.

The Vista Annoyances book gives the solution: The free and powerful Trinity Rescue Kit (TRK): http://trinityhome.org/Home/blog.php?front_id=15 . . . . . There is a convenient download: http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,71020/description.html . . . . . Documentation is not so good but it works. I was able to clear an expired Admin password!
