Suddenly Cannot Play Video Files?

I must have changed something because now wmv and mpeg files will not play. I get the message to save to a file first? I have tried Windows Media Files, etc., but still get the same message. Is there an overall default for Windows Vista to set it back to it's original setup? What program works with these types of files?

What happens now is that when I find a video file on line and attempt to open it, it now has to load to a temp file before it opens. Before it simply opened and played. That's better then before, but still not what I had. Just cannot figure out what programs are best to use for various media files. Is there a Vista default?
