On 4 of my icons on the desktop there is a red. white & blue shield on the lower right-hand corner. What are they for?

I have several pdf files on my desktop and in the lower right corner of those, the
little Adobe Reader "loop-de-loop" appears in a red square.

So my guess is that the red white and blue square is the "logo" or "branding" of
the program that opens or creates the particular files represented by those icons.

Was I right? :-)

That would be a red, green, yellow, and blue shield.

An easy way of tracing the origin of these icons is to R. click on each one of them
and go to properties. When there in properties, look of at what you have for info.
If it is a static file like an "Adobe Reader" pdf file it will have, in the second
section down, 'Type of file' and 'Opens with'
listed. If it is a program, i.e. an 'Executable', about mid way down it will show
'Start in'. This is the directory where the 'Executable' file resides. At the bottom
there is a button for 'Change Icon'. You can go there to see where this new mysterious
icon (presumable in a program) comes from.

There are thousands of program Icons and try to describe one is just too much. Until
I went and looked at an Adobe Icon on my desk top I couldn't understand the Loop
D Loop description and then when I saw it, of course that makes sense.

Are the shields you are describing like the ones on the left side of 'Control Panel/System'?
I am researching what or why you would have those on your desktop, for you.
