I have a question about Stop Windows from saving the thumbnail cache (THUMBS.DB):

Thumbs.db files mysteriously just started appearing on my computer a few days ago. (I'm using Windows Vista Home) I have changed absolutely nothing lately, so I don't understand why this could be happening. To get Windows to knock it the heck off, I have tried 1) to do the "Do not cache thumbnails" option, but that doesn't exist in my folder options view tab. It just ain't there. It goes straight from "Display the full path..." to "Hidden files and folders". 2) to add "DisableThumbnailCache" to the registry with the DWORD value of 1, logging off, and even turning off when that didn't work, but it acts like nothing has been changed. Is there anything else at all that can be done? These things are driving me nuts! TiA.

Hi Eris, You might give this a try. It will show you how to turn off thumbnails in Windows Explorer. It should cause Vista to not cache them when turned off. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/73715-thumbnails-windows-explorer.html Hope this helps, Shawn

You are trying an XP reg. hack on a Vista machine. Very dangerous and of course it didn't work as the systems don't work the same. I think you can get the knowledge you need at the following link.
