Go to the Hp website and look up your computer specs. It will tell you everything you need to know about your computer. Just cut and paste url in your address bar and it should take you to the site. Just type in your computer model number and hit enter and follow promps to computer spec sheet. welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html

I am not sure on current HP laptops, but it is normally the policy of most if not
all laptop manufacturers to actually solder in the processor. This obviously would
make it all but impossible to modify. Also some manufacturers get really cheep and
do not give the same support to the motherboard to make this possible even if it
did incorporate a socket for the proc.

I don't know about INTEL chipsets in HP But i do know that AMD does not solder there CPU's to the motherboard. And your 1.88GHZ is your memory sticks. Depending on your model # you could have 2 slots or 4 slots. Since you didn't post the model # there's no way for me to let you know RAM size.

Yes, your laptop should be able to handle Vista Home basic or Premium, as long as
it has 1gig or more of memory. Having 2gig would be best. You also need to find out
if the video memory can be set to 64meg or higher in the BIOS so the Vista Aero Theme
will work properly.

Good luck!
