Have you tried to boot into 'Safe Mode'? Any success there? I assume you have access
to a machine otherwise. If you have the original install disk you can run the recovery
center tool on it. If not, there is a boot recovery download of MS's version of the
'Recovery Center' so you can get it up and running again. I list the link below.
This has been released for use by the public and is not a complete install disk.
Some people are have success with the aid of this disk. This is a goo page for any
Vista machine that won't boot. The second disk listed there is from a company that
makes excellent management software.

Another link is a MVP site that specializes in this type of issue. He has a lot of
OLD stuff but most of the info is still relevant. Follow the link there and see if
he has any tools that will help. No OS is perfect, no matter what one certain fruit
company wants you to believe.

One of the greatest things that people forget to do when doing an intense update
like an SP update is to turn off any other software, ESPECIALLY the Anti-Virus. This
rule goes back to Windows 3.0 and has now become very important with Vista. If you
are willing to follow the instructions and apply the prerequisite files etc., I have
much better luck with the manual install of SP2 and suggest that. Yo can get MS to
send you a SP2 disk (usually free with a little persuasion) and I am assuming that
like SP1 it has the recovery tools built onto it.
