Boot from the XP CD, and delete the Hard Drive Partitions, and see if that gets you
going. You also might have a SATA Controller Problem, since most Vista PC's now have
SATA Hard Drives, and XP doesn't have many drivers for the SATA Controllers.

Read up on Installing XP on SATA Drives. Many good tutorials on the Internet. It
can sometimes be a bit daunting on some New Computers because of the Driver problems.

uhhm, you've said that I may have some problems on sata controllers and some xp doesn't
have much controllers on sata, does that mean I cannot install xp on my laptop at
all? what are the possible ways for me to install xp on my laptop? thanks!
--one more thing, whenever I try to reformat, as it boots from cd, it doesn't reach
the partitioning part, the error occurs early (probably 3-5 minutes after booting).
thanks and sorry for the disturbance.

If XP doesn't see the Drive, then that is because it has no Driver for the Controller.
Since Laptops don't have Floppy Drives, to load Drivers at a start of the
Install, you don't have a easy way to install XP.
Some Laptops have a Bios
setting to make SATA Drives look like a pata Drive. I have never seen one myself
though, so can't offer any more help on that.
You can also sometimes make
a New XP Install CD with the SATA Controller Driver Slipstreamed into the CD with
a program called nlite.
However the Laptop Manufacture would need to provide
a Driver to Download for that. I have seen a few that don't offer the Driver for
some reason.
I could also just suggest you just learn to Live with Vista
if you don't enjoy playing around with stuff like this.

Visit The Manufacture Web Site of the Laptop. If they offer XP Drivers for your model
then it can be done.

The problem is not the sata drive but the "mode" the controller is using. Some laptops
have an option to change the mode in the bios.It is most likely using AHCI mode as
it enables power saving features built into the drives firmware.Your bios may include
the option of changing that mode to "normal" or ide mode which will not require drivers
during the install of XP.Even if your bios allows you to change modes I would still
check the manufacturers web site for drivers for the chipset ,ethernet, sound etc..for
XP.If it is a recent model it won't likely have XP drivers and you will have to go
looking for XP drivers from the 3rd party manufacturers of the components. All in
all I would stick to Vista and learn how to make it better for your particular usage
needs.

well, I see. Hopefully changing the mode into normal would give way for me to use
XP again. thank you very much and GodBless. (I don't think my laptop is the latest
model) :D
