I would like to be able to access an external hard drive via VPN.

Currently, the system is set up like this: internet connection------>modem-------->wireless router------->External Drive There are no computers hardwired to the system. The laptop I use is on Vista. Is it possible to connect to the external hard drive via VPN? I set up a VPN and when I try to connect I get " 198.XXX.X.X is not set up to establish a connection on port "pptp" with this computer". The 198.XXX.X.X is the EHD's address. This external drive is a WD product that came with a product called "MioNet" that allows you to connect remotely so I know it can be done. Some other information I read suggested that I might have to reformat the drive to enable it to act as a server. I'm having a hell of a time and any good advice would be greatly appreciated.

From what I can tell Mionet is installed on a computer and the computer handles the
communication so unless your router supports setting up VPN access to the drive the
setup as stated will not work. Also VPN access is a PIA to setup with so many things
that can break it if they are even the slightest bit off so it will likely be a lot
of settings checking and manual reading to get this working if the router supports
it at all.

From what I read MioNet is a pain in the neck to configure and there are other simpler
choices. Is this drive part of an Enterprise configuration? Is it Vista compatible?
Do you have the correct Drivers? Is it SAS, SCSI, or SATA? Is it configured correctly,
things such and read/write cache being turned on. Does it support it's own memory
and is that all well in place and checked out.

Am I missing something ? Mionet (which, as others have said, can be a PITA) has to be installed on a PC to manage the remote access process. As you have no PC in your set-up I don't see how that can work, leastways not with Mionet ??
