Tried addding a usb hard drive enclosure formatted with ntfs to a Vista Premium computer. With the computer up and running when I turn on the drive enclosure, I get a BSD every time. If I try to start computer with drive plugged into usb port (either port) computer will not boot up to windows if drive is powered on, but pc will boot with it plugged into usb port but not turned on. Drive contains music and photo files but no operating files. Tried several times, it works on my xp machine and was created there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I would second the power idea, see it running it in a powered USB hub makes a difference.

the computer actually is my sisters, I don't have the specs, I will get them. I believe she has used the usb ports before. I will check this out, it does sound about right. Thank you for your replies.

Just because she's used them before does not rule out, the too much power draw hypothesis.
Other devices may not draw as much power as an external drive. Another thing to check
is the cable, and try a different port.
