Constant Beeping Through Speakers?

I have Vista Home and I have a constant beeping every 20 seconds or so and it jumps
up on the mixer as well. It is IDT High Def. Codec. It's on the "speakers and dual
headphones"...I've gone through all the sounds under the properties...It is labels
as "windows default (modified)"
It sounds similar (but not exact) as the "device connect" and device connect which
the .wav on them is windows hardware insert and windows hardward remove.
I've looked at my processes running to just see if it's something in the background
but not sure what many of them are??? There are 82 processes running so on a second
note, how do I know which ones I can cancel? There isn't a way to copy/paste them

First try running in Safe Mode.
If it doesn't happen there then its one of your startup applications and you'll have
to go theough the tedious procecss of eliminating them one at a time. You may be
able do this at application level - almost impossible at process level.

Or it could be a motherboard alarm for low fan speed or temps too high. You would
have to check in the bios to see if if everything is normal.

I'm STILL having this issue...It sounds like a double heartbeat. It happens approx.
every 17 seconds. I've disabled all startup programs and still happens. Under processes,
I've stopped everyone that is labeled me but left all the of the system processes.
This is driving me CRAZY!!! I can't watch a movie, listen to music, etc...

Sorry, I must not have copied everything before I pasted.
I've gone into the processes in task manager and stopped everything under my name
but didn't want to mess with the system ones. I disabled all startup items and it
still happens. I've tried to start in safe mode to see if it happens but the audio
is disabled and even when I try to enable, it doesn't let me. Even if I try to configure
it so I can't get any sound while in safe mode.
