Networking setup for dummies?

Where can I find a step by step setting up a network in Vista for dummies? I am trying
to get access to files on Computer A from Computer B in my home/office network. It
was simple in XP, but Vista is driving me crazy. Please do not respond with questions
about my setup. Please, please, just make it easy. I have been at this for months
now.

The same basic steps are there, kill the firewalls, make sure they can ping, make
sure workgroups are the same, shared files are shared ect. I have noticed no huge
differences from XP myself. Anything more direct than that will require us to ask
questions about your setup, we have no magic wands here, only our skills and we need
information to use them.

While this site is quite informative and I appreciate it, the information is about
routers, not the different idiosyncrasies of the operating systems. There is where
the trouble lies. I am having difficulty getting a Vista machine to access an XP
machine. I am almost there, however. At least I have the Vista machines sharing folders
and files now.

Windows networking is often about finding the 1 thing on a long checklist you missed
the big steps are on my last post here, other than that I can only say to redo all
the settings and see if it helps. Beyond that it is hard to tell what the trouble
is without knowing the setup.
