Which kind of wireless adapter do I have?

How do I find out whether my laptop's built-in wireless adapter is 'n' or not?
I've got my suspicions that it is not 'n' because one speed test gave me exactly
10.0M (out of the 20m I could get), which I think I've heard is the limit for g/b
adapters.
Thanks

Also keep in mind the adapter will not connect any faster then the Router can deliver.

If you want a definitive answer look on the laptop itself to see if it says, if not
look up the specks with the vender that made it.

Hovering above the taskbar network icon only tells me about the network I'm connected
to and that the access is local and internet. So is the answer to my question that
there's no easy way of telling which kind of adapter I have?

On my Laptop it will say I'm connected at 54 Mbps on a G or N router, and 10 when
connected to a B Router. My Bet is you got a G adapter. But just check the manufacture
Web site if you can't figure it out any other way.

I meant the icon in the system tray, not taskbar. Is there any other network icon
that could tell me the wireless adapter type? It definitely is an 'n' router I'm
using.

Check the specks on the laptop, that will tell you what type it is.

On your Home network copy a Large file about 1 gig from the Laptop to a Wired Computer.
If the transfer takes about a Minute you would have a g adapter, if it takes 15 to
20 seconds you would have a n adapter that assumes the the wired computer on the
Network is using a 10/100 network card.

Check in Device Manager. Mine shows the full capability of the wireless adapter.

Yes I tried Device Manager. Mine just says 'atheros ar5b91 wireless network adapter'.
Today a speed test showed 14.75M speed. Does that mean that it must be an 'n' adapter?
My connection speed has been really erratic, one second it transmits nothing, next
second it's over 10m worth.

Oops, based on the earlier response I guess it could be a g or n adapter, if that
test result was reliable.

A quick Google reveals that the Atheros AR5B91 wireless card supports 802.11a/b/g/draft-N
bands.
