Slower than molasses!

The laptop is running slower than molasses in winter! I don't know if I have a bug or something else slowing me down.

The anti-virus (Comodo) isn't showing any problems, but I feel there is something going on!

I checked the start-up config, and there are some things I'm not sure should be loading, but I don't have enough confidence to delete them [from the start menu]. The only things I have that I want to load from start-up are my Stickies, my Getright, and my Tivo apps, as I use them quite frequently. But there are, I believe, other things which load that are just sapping my memory.

If I take one of my devices off its USB port, it takes almost a minute to have the audible tone to sound off. It takes about 5-7 minutes for Firefox to load after I have hit the button, and lately, it just seems to be like walking in mud.

I do transfer quite a few of my Tivo TV shows, and then send them to an external drive for safekeeping, And I try to keep about 10-20 GB free on the hard drive at all times. (It's a 160 GB HD).

I can post the HJT logfile ASAP if it will help. Thank you most kindly!

Run a full scan with MalwareBytes (free download, and a good thing to do anyway). Then, when you've done that, the nest diagnostic question is "how fast does it run in Safe Mode" ?

Some computers in a recent Comodo update are being effected in the way you describe.
I have 3 out of 4 computes that when I uninstalled Comodo, returned to normal. Not
saying this is your problem, but it was mine and that's what did it.

Thank you--I uninstalled Comodo and it's running faster!

I am happy to say that while it's still not 100% "cured" it IS running a lot faster than it was! The only problem that Malwarebytes found, after 5 hours on the scan, was a single instance of a Packer.T file, which was deleted. So I did the uninstall on the Comodo, and it is definitely faster. I'm going back to AVG, I think, as I don't recall too many problems with it. Thank you folks for your help. I am once again indebted to the folks here at Annoyances!

Try the new Microsoft Security Essentials. An antivirus and malware all rolled up in one. It replaces live one care and is free. After installing it and it runs it's intinial quick scan, run a full scan. It can take awhile on large harddrives. MSE founds some bugs none of the other anti-malware, adware, spyware software I have.
