IE and FF both just stop

I'm at a total loss. At first I thought it was just FF, but it turned out to be IE as well. I'll boot my laptop, and load a page and maybe one page will work. I can start another URL and the page will either stall right there or only partially load. Sometimes just restarting the program will "free" it up, but most of the time I have to restart the computer. Essentially the same thing with email. It will load for a while but then quit. I've done a reinstall of the HP system from their "as new" partition and it still does this. I've defragged, check for virus and spyware. The web DOES work as I've been able to get my updates to Vista after the reinstall. I appreciate any ideas anyone has. My next idea is Windows 7!!!

Switching OSes is highly unlikely to help in any way, and if you mean an upgrade
install it will likely only make it worse. If you did a fresh install/restore and
it still does it on both firefox and IE then I suspect the problem is with your router,
modem or ISP. Your router and modem should both have a reset pinhole on the back
somewhere so I would use that first, that will reset them to their factory state
so write down any settings you need to first. If resetting on your end does nothing
call your ISP and get them to test to make sure it is not on their end.

I guess I should have been a little more clear. The other four computers in the house work just fine. I have one on XP, two on Vista and one on Windows 7 Starter. It seems my problem is totally confined to my laptop.

You shouldn't have even hoped that defragging could help.
In these situations, it's often a flaky NIC.
Maybe you know someone you can borrow one from to test that possibility?

Are there any errors created in the event viewer when this happens?

Does it do it when connected either to copper (network cable) or wireless?

I don't know about copper. I'll check Tuesday when I get back.
