Vista Locking Up?

Hey how's it going everyone? I was wondering if someone can help me out with a problem
i'm having with Vista. After a while of working on the computer firefox or ie will
lock up the whole computer and I can't hit control alt delete or anything. I noticed
when using a flash application or watching a video it will cause the problem also.

Sounds like over-heating is a possibility.
Look in Event Viewer, check your fans and that its not full of dust.

Ok i'm in the event viewer now what do I look for, if its hardware what would I see?
Also I was thinking that it might not be hardware, because the cursor still moves,
but everything is freezing and from what i've seen it works perfectly in safe mode.

Flash player can lock up a system so badly that even control alt delete takes a second
to respond if it is trying to load a poorly made flash file. Streaming videos almost
exclusively use a flash player to display content so it sounds like that is the problem,
never found a solution that works in every case sadly.

Look for items with a red cross around the time of a freeze.
Double click on the item to get details.

Ok when I look at that it only shows a critical error from when I powered the computer
off manually. There has got to be something running on the computer that is killing
my explorer.exe or some other service or process. During safemode no problems I can
access the internet surf and no problems, but when its running normal the computer
drags slow and then after a while and then one program will lock up then another
when I click on it or minimize the window it will then lock up.
Has anyone here experienced windows 7 yet, maybe i need to upgrade or something?

Upgrading to Windows 7 woudl be the last thing I'd recommend. Get the Vista problem
fixed first.

except for windows and turned off all startup programs that aren't windows or intel
and it still keeps locking up and moving slow the event viewer doesn't show what
happened.

Can I eliminate the fact of it being a hardware issue if i can run fine in safe mode?
If that is the case it means it is some kind of driver issue or something. Is there
another program that can diagnose or catch the problem when it happens.

You are right, if all's well inj Safe Mode then its 99.9% certain it is a software
problem.
The Event Viewer is meant to pick up problems like this, and if its showing nothing
then it is likely to be an application (for what that's worth), ie Windows sees nothing
amiss.
Sadly I am not aware of any easier way to daignose this than by turning off everything
in your startup folder and msconfig and then turning them back on one-by-one to find
the culprit.
You can make this task slightly less tedious by using Winpatrol, and someone cunning
observed a while ago that turning on half, then half the remainder etc speeds up
the process somewhat.

Ok Im downloaded the vista services optimizer and it lead me to the performance tool
in vista. I've been thinking it was something dealing with Explorer.exe and I see
that it has at max around 5000 hard faults per minute, is that high or too much?

Not sure what you mean by "max around 5000 hard faults per minute" ?
If its HDD faults then you've a failing HDD for sure.
